Driver Improvement Course (Defensive Driving) - 2026 February

  • Steer Clear Driver's Ed, LLC 304 Cherokee Street Kingsport, TN, 37660 United States (map)

Our DIP Course is a Tennessee State-approved, 8-hour in-person class that fulfills the legal requirements outlined by most courts for drivers who have received a traffic violation. Specifically, this course meets the court-mandated minimum of 8 hours of in-person instruction, as often required for point reduction, ticket dismissal, or compliance with a court order.

This course is taught by Instructor, Jubilee Lawhead, who is certified to teach AAA's Driver Improvement Program. This certification ensures that students are receiving high-quality, evidence-based instruction backed by one of the most trusted names in driver safety education.

The class is divided into two 4-hour sessions, making it more manageable while still delivering the full 8 hours of required instruction. The curriculum focuses on improving driving habits, recognizing and avoiding hazards, understanding updated traffic laws, and reducing risky behaviors behind the wheel.

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a certificate that can be submitted to the court or to the Tennessee Department of Safety, depending on the reason for attendance. Whether you're attending as part of a court order or to improve your driving record, our course provides a practical, engaging, and court-compliant learning experience.

If minimum enrollment is not met for an 8-hour Defensive Driving (DIP) class, Steer Clear reserves the right to cancel the class. Any student who has already paid will receive a full refund. Advance notice will be provided via email, and Steer Clear is not responsible for missed communications due to failure to check or monitor email.

Additionally, Steer Clear is not legally liable for any court-imposed sanctions, fines, fees, license suspensions or revocations, or employment consequences resulting from a student’s inability to complete a course on time or due to class cancellation.
